Supporting the Troops (Heath House)

July 19, 2018 (Lincolnton, NC) ─ Heath House, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Lincolnton, and the VFW Post 2031 Auxiliary in Statesville, along with help from the community, recently shipped eight care packages to a 26-member platoon as part of the Adopt a US Soldier Program.

Pictured above, Heath House residents Brenda Parker, June LeRoy, Arvin Gabbard, Beth Bradham, Peggy Brown, volunteer Alyssa McAfee and resident Jeanette Kelly help compile the final packages for shipping at the VFW Post 2031.

“Many wonderful people in the community donated items generously,” said Heath House Activities Director Millie Guy. “Our residents worked enthusiastically on this special project. They contacted family members and church communities to promote our project.”

Each soldier was sent a gift bag personally decorated by the residents, filled with items such as handmade cards, plastic canvas flags and crosses, protein bars, cookies, nuts, coffee, water bottles, boot socks and more. The eight boxes were packed at the VFW Post 2031.

“As a wife of a retired soldier and mother of son that have both done long deployments in the Middle East, it holds special meaning for me,” said Millie Guy.

“It’s our job as volunteers and former service members to support those who support our nation,” said Mark Josey.
