Savoring the Flavors of Summer (Twelve Oaks)

August 27, 2018 (Mt. Airy, NC) ─ With a banner growing season, residents at Twelve Oaks have been enjoying the fruits of their labors. The gardens at the DePaul Senior Living Community in Mt. Airy have netted bushels of tomatoes, hot peppers, green onions and cucumbers. Twelve Oaks residents Alsa Wenzel and Shirley Bowes are pictured below caring for the gardens.

“We had a ball working in the garden this year, eating all the produce and sharing stories and laughter,” said Activities Director Anna Burford. “Precious memories were surely made.”

One of the most satisfying parts of the garden for Twelve Oaks residents has been enjoying the fruits of their labor, from homemade salsa to cucumber sandwiches and fried green tomatoes!

The garden would not have been made possible without the help of Twelve Oaks maintenance staff member Terry Burcham who built the planter boxes and installed a timed-watering system, said Burford.
