Making Holiday Memories (Wexford House)

January 29, 2019 (Denver, NC) ─ It was an unforgettable holiday season at Wexford House, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Denver, thanks to the kindness and generosity of community members who donated everything from their time to their talents!

Students from area schools helped make the season brighter for residents at Wexford House. grader Kylie Bumgarner. Southlake Christian Academy visits Wexford House about every other month to read stories, play bingo, sing songs and engage with seniors.

“We’ve come to be like family,” teacher Velvet Calhoun said of the intergenerational partnership.

Pictured above are Wexford House residents Wanda Wells and Alda Bean with students from East Lincoln High School’s Interact Club who visited to sing Christmas carols, deliver packages and play games with the seniors. Affiliated with the Denver Rotary Club, the goal of the Interact Club is to get out and volunteer according to Social Studies Chair and Interact Sponsor Mark Shanklin.

“Government can’t do everything,” said Shanklin. “It’s up to citizens to be involved to make our community stronger and being responsive to local citizens’ needs.”

Community members Pat Young and Donna Forrest have become favorites among the residents at Wexford House.

Donna is pictured above with Wexford House resident Rick Taylor and resident Edna Davidson shows off a Christmas tree ornament she made with the help of the two women who have been volunteering weekly doing manicures and crafts for the past year.

“We both feel like we’re really making a difference,” said Young.
