Out On the Town (Wexford House)

March 26, 2019 (Denver, NC) ─When it comes to getting out on the town for lunch, movies and shopping, residents at Wexford House, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Denver, have plenty of favorites to choose from!

Getting out on the town for lunch and shopping is always a popular activity and there’s no shortage of places to choose from. Residents enjoy shopping for snacks, room decorations, word search books and beauty and hygiene items. Among their favorite places to go out to eat are Captain Pete’s restaurant for seafood, The Untouchables for their all-you-can-eat buffet, Butcher Boys Café & Catering for some good old fashion southern cooking, as well as the monthly first Thursday lunch at Denver United Methodist Church.

“The residents enjoy seeing a lot of people they know from the community at the church lunch,” said Activities Director Leslie Spinner. “The food is good and the desserts are even better. You never know what they’re going to have, but you know for sure it’s going to be homemade with love.”

Organized by the church’s Helping Hands outreach ministry, the lunch draws in nearly 100 folks, often to the point of selling out. The school students from the church’s preschool program donate their time to decorate the tables and help entertain guests. All proceeds from the lunch go to the church’s backpack program and the East Lincoln Christian Ministries. Peggy Lackey, a parishioner and volunteer from the church, said Wexford House has been coming to the monthly lunch for over 10 years!

“We’re waiting at the door when the bus pulls up and we’re there to walk them out the door after lunch,” said Lackey. “We want you to come be part of our community. It’s good fellowship.”
