Feeling the Love (Wexford House)

February 20, 2020 (Denver, NC) ─ Valentine’s Day at Wexford House was made even more special with a donation of homemade frilly scarves. In an effort organized by Ann Tilley, owner of A Tangled Yarn Shop, the scarves were made by members of the community for residents of the DePaul Senior Living Community in Denver.

The scarf project was part of A Tangled Yarn shop’s six-year anniversary celebration. Tilley invited customers to take extra skeins of yarn which she had at the shop to knit or crochet scarves at home or in the gathering area at the shop. She and her customers wound up making a total of 36 scarves over two months time.

“I had no idea what to do with the scarves,” said Tilley. “I was coming into work one day and went by Wexford House.”

Tilley knew exactly what to do with the homemade items. She would donate them to the women residents at Wexford House. But she couldn’t leave the men out, so she gathered red handkerchiefs to give to them.

“Kindness goes a long way and it’s just very heartwarming and touches me that I could do something to bring a smile to the residents’ faces,” Tilley said.

Activities Director Leslie Spinner said the scarves really brightened the residents’ day.

“Thank you to Ann and to the community for thinking of us,” she said. “We appreciate you.”
