June 3, 2020 (Cheektowaga, NY) ─ When Edward Maguder went to return an item of clothing at a local department store over seventy years ago, he walked away with much more than he bargained for. While the shirt wasn’t the right fit, his crush on the shop girl Theodora was. The couple recently celebrated their 69^th wedding anniversary!

When Edward stopped to return a shirt at Sattler’s Department Store at 998 Broadway, Theodora, caught his eye. While Theodora remembered Edward from school, he didn’t know her.

“I knew she stopped working at nine so I waited by the employee entrance for her to get off work so I could talk to her more,” he recalls. “I met her almost every night after work after that.”

The couple was married on May 5, 1951 at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, and have five children, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Their advice to everlasting love is to “stay together, pray together, and have kids.”

Edward Maguder is a resident at Glenwell, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Cheektowaga, and Theodora resides at the McGuire Group´s Garden Gate Health Care Facility. Staff at Glenwell assisted Edward in sending his wife flowers and a card. The couple celebrated together via FaceTime and a phone call.
