DePaul’s Senior Living Communities Celebrate Active Aging Week

By: Justine Smith, Digital Content Manager

DePaul Senior Living communities have long recognized the benefits of joyful movement, interactive social events, mentally stimulating games and a myriad of other engaging activities to promote healthy aging for those we serve! In celebration of Active Aging Week from September 30-October 6, 2024, check out just a few of the ways our seniors are aiming to live well no matter their age.

Walking Clubs

DePaul Senior Living Walking Clubs

There’s nothing quite like a walk, especially outdoors, to improve both mental and physical health. Getting in one’s steps has been proven to reduce anxiety, improve sleep and even slow the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, according to Senior Services of America.

DePaul seniors enjoy outdoor strolls together in walking clubs – a fantastic way to appreciate the seasonal weather changes and bond with friends, staff and family members.

Olympics-Inspired Activities

The fierce competition of the 2024 Paris Olympics served as inspiration for a series of games among DePaul seniors, kicked off with the ceremonial passing of the torch. Balloon volleyball, bean bag toss, pool noodle javelin throw, and even spelling bees and Scrabble competitions made for an unforgettable summer, complete with awards ceremonies.

Hydration Stations

Staying hydrated is easy and fun with refreshing infused water! Fresh mint, basil, rosemary, lemon, cucumbers and blueberries have been used to create thirst-quenching combinations at hydration stations.

Local Outings

DePaul seniors love getting out and about to explore their local communities! 2024 highlights have included:
