DePaul is thrilled to welcome Rosemary Sanders, Property Manager of the Pan-American Square Apartments in Buffalo opened in 2025!

1. How would you describe a typical day in your role? 

I balance support for the people we serve and our team with daily operations, including addressing resident needs, reviewing maintenance requests, coordinating with staff and vendors, handling compliance tasks. Each day is different, but my goal is always the same – to keep the property running smoothly and ensure residents feel at home.

2. What does “home” mean to you, and how do you try to create that feeling for residents? 

Home means safety, comfort, and belonging. I work to create that for residents by listening to their needs, responding with care, and fostering a welcoming community.

3. Since stepping into this role, what’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself?

One thing I’ve learned about myself in this role is that I’m more adaptable than I realized. Every day brings something different, and I’ve found that I can stay calm, think quickly, and adjust to whatever challenge comes my way while still keeping residents’ needs first.

4. Are you originally from Buffalo? 

Yes, originally from Buffalo! This city has always been home to me, and I really value the sense of community here – ‘Buffalo Strong.’ It’s special to be able to work in a role where I can give back to the place I grew up.

5. Tell us about your support system.

I’m fortunate to have a supportive family and a strong network of friends who help keep me grounded. Their encouragement allows me to bring my best self to both my personal life and my role at work.

6. What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of work?

I enjoy a mix of indoor/outdoor activities, relaxation, and personal growth, including meditation. I also like spending meaningful time with family and friends.

7. Is there a cause you’re passionate about beyond your role at DePaul?

I’m passionate about affordable housing and mental health, which complements my work at DePaul by allowing me to create safe, supportive, and thriving communities for our residents.

8. What is a personal achievement you’re especially proud of?

I consider my personal journey an achievement in itself, as every experience and challenge I’ve faced has prepared me for the position I currently hold. These experiences have strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, all of which I apply in my professional role.

9. What’s one song, movie, book, or quote that always lifts your spirits?

A quote that consistently inspires me is, ‘This too shall pass.’ It encourages resilience and a positive mindset, helping me navigate both personal and professional challenges.
