How long have you worked at DePaul and what roles have you held during your time here?

I have worked at DePaul for over 21 years. I have held many roles in Human Resources including as our Benefits Coordinator as well as organizing DePaul learning opportunities. For the last five years, I have served as the Leave Administrator to assist employees with time away from work under disability, Family Medical and/or Paid Family Leave.

In what ways does your role contribute to DePaul’s broader mission?

DePaul is a place we want everyone to call home. A home should be where people feel welcomed, supported, and valued and so I do my best to make sure I support and help our employees through their leave needs. Our lives can change without notice and that change can be overwhelming and challenging therefor it is my goal to guide our employees through the process and help them every step of the way.

How would you describe a typical day in your role?

I pride myself on being readily available for our employees. I also frequently attend seminars on the continuously changing federal and state leave laws. There is always something new to learn!

What’s your favorite aspect about working with your team?

I work with a great group of people.  We all help and support each other without a second thought.  We have our areas of expertise to bring to the table when working together on tasks and projects.

Tell us about your family, pets and/or support system!

I have a great support system with my husband of 14 years, Chris, and our 10-year-old and 6-year-old.  The kids keep us busy and feeling young!  We learn from our kids almost as much as they learn from us.  They teach me to be a patient person!

What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of work?

I love spending time with my family. We try to get out and do fun things as much as possible, like going to the zoo, movies, and finding new parks/playgrounds to explore.

Is there a cause or issue you’re passionate about beyond work at DePaul?

I am passionate about ending childhood poverty and hunger. It’s such a widespread, heartbreaking issue.  I strive to support programs that provide food and housing for children and their families in need.

Do you have a favorite quote or motto that inspires you?

“You do what is right at the time.”  I find this is helpful when it comes to parenting. Making parenting decisions can be hard! We go with our gut feeling and what’s best for the kids.

Thank you to Kelly for 21 years of making a difference at DePaul! Stay tuned as we continue to highlight the passionate individuals who make our work possible.
