What has been the most rewarding aspect of your role since starting in October 2025?

Working with such dedicated teams across the region and helping create spaces where both staff and residents feel supported and can thrive. I enjoy finding solutions to everyday challenges, improving how things operate, and seeing the positive difference it makes for the people we serve.

What initially drew you to the facilities field?

My fascination with buildings and architecture. I’ve always appreciated the design and craftsmanship of structures from different decades as well as modern construction and innovation. That interest naturally grew into a passion for maintaining and improving the spaces people use every day.

What’s an example of a challenge you helped solve that had a meaningful impact on a resident or site?

A large part of my role is problem solving and figuring out the best course of action while balancing cost, efficiency, and minimizing downtime so our building systems continue running as they should. One example that stands out was when a resident lost heat during the winter. Restoring heat became my top priority, and I worked quickly with the team to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Knowing we were able to restore comfort and safety for the resident made the situation especially meaningful.

How do you support and develop teams across multiple DePaul sites?

I support teams across multiple sites through strong communication and by building solid relationships with each manager and maintenance staff member. Every site has its own personality, team dynamic, and unique challenges, so it’s important to maintain a good balance while making sure everyone feels supported. I try to stay approachable, work collaboratively, and provide guidance when needed so each site can continue operating smoothly and effectively.

What’s something about facilities work that people may not realize?

I think one thing people may not realize about facilities work is how much happens behind the scenes to keep buildings operating smoothly every day. A big part of the job is anticipating problems before they become major issues, responding quickly when something goes wrong, and balancing safety, comfort, cost, and efficiency all at once. When everything is running well, most people never have to think about it and that’s usually a sign the team is doing its job well.

How does your role support and advance DePaul’s mission?

My role supports DePaul’s mission by helping provide safe, reliable, and comfortable environments for both residents and staff. When our buildings and systems are operating the way they should, it allows staff to focus on the care and support they provide every day. Maintaining these spaces is an important part of creating stability, dignity, and a positive experience for the people we serve.

Could you tell us about your family, pets, or support system?

I spend a lot of time with my black lab, Marshall, and staying close with family and friends. My support system has meant a great deal to me over the past year following the passing of my wife, and I’m incredibly grateful for the kindness and support I’ve received from what truly feels like a family here at DePaul.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active, working out, golfing, and traveling whenever I get the chance. I’m a big advocate for experiencing new places and adventures, whether it’s a weekend trip or trying something completely new.

Thank you to Tony for his dedication to those we serve and our team at DePaul! Stay tuned as we continue to highlight the passionate individuals who make our work possible.
