Meet Our Team: Diane Kelly
Behind every DePaul program are dedicated team members committed to making a difference. We’re proud to spotlight Diane Kelly, Director of Entitlement Services for our Representative Payee Program, whose leadership helps individuals access the support they need to achieve greater stability and independence.
How long have you worked at DePaul and what roles have you held during your time here?
I started at DePaul in 1992 working part-time on the weekend overnight shift and then became a counselor followed by the manager of a housing program. I left DePaul for a little while and returned to our Representative Payee Program.
How would you describe a typical day in your role?
Every day is a little different, but I enjoy piecing together the puzzle of helping people access the benefits and income they’re entitled to receive. It often involves working closely with residents and coordinating with various agencies to gather the information needed and ensure everything falls into place.
What’s the most rewarding part of your work?
It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact on the people we serve when all the pieces fall into place, from obtaining benefits and funding to accessing treatment and stable housing.
What is something others may find surprising about your role?
People are often surprised by how much of our work involves advocacy and support. In addition to managing bills and Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) funds, we assist individuals with applying for Social Security benefits, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and other essential services that help support their stability and well-being.
Tell us about your family, pets and/or support system!
I have three wonderful daughters who I am very proud of! They are all in their 20s starting their own lives and I love to watch them grow. I am also soon to be a grandmother and am excited for this new role! I have several cats and dogs that keep my house very active.
What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of work?
I enjoy doing anything outdoors, hiking, camping, bonfires, being near water, and golf. I also love music, listening to WBER on the radio, and going to concerts.
Do you have a favorite quote or motto that inspires you?
This quote from The Shawshank Redemption has always resonated with me: “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
