Meet the Team: Michelle McCoy, Program Director of Supportive Housing
DePaul is thrilled to recognize Michelle McCoy, Program Director of Supportive Housing for the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming (GLOW) county region.
Michelle began her journey with DePaul in 1992 and has been a dedicated leader for those we serve ever since. Since stepping into the role of Program Director in 2010, she has brought forth unwavering commitment and compassion.

1. As the Program Director of Supportive Housing, how would you describe a typical day in your role?
There are no typical days, which is why I like my job. My workdays include meeting with and/or screening clients, working on referrals, and spending time in the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming (GLOW) counties that we serve.
2. How long have you worked at DePaul and what other roles have you held during your time here?
I was originally hired in July of 1992 with Living Opportunities of Western New York which merged with DePaul in 1996. I started off with a few part-time positions followed by an Assistant Manager and Manager position. I became our Program Director for Supportive Housing in 2010.
3. What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?
My sister was working part-time here and let me know they were hiring. Once I started, I loved it!
4. How would you describe the culture at DePaul in three words?
- Friendly
- Teamwork
- Understanding
5. Can you share a memorable success story or moment that stands out from your time at DePaul?
I have seen many staff advance their careers at DePaul which is important for all staff, including those new to DePaul, to see is possible. It’s also a joy to witness countless clients transition to more independent forms of living.
6. How do you measure success in your role?
My role focuses on both client and staff success as well as our programs getting recognized for providing great service and praise from the other agencies that we work with.
7. Can you tell us about your family, pets, and/or support system?
My husband, Tim, and I have two adult sons who live in the Rochester area. Tim and I got married just a few months before I started with DePaul in 1992. We have a dog (Myles who is a Great Dane) and a cat (Bandit, who is a Siamese mix adopted from a shelter). My husband and I both grew up in Genesee County and still have most of our family here.
8. What are some of your favorite ways to spend time outside of work?
My husband and I do a lot of camping with our dog. We have a camper and go with a group of friends. My husband just retired this year, so we mostly have been camping in the Western New York area for now and hope to travel to other areas too!
9. Is there a cause or issue you’re passionate about beyond work at DePaul?
I have served on the board of the Mental Health Association of Genesee & Orleans Counties for many years. In addition, I am a member of the Orleans County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
10. What is a personal achievement you’re especially proud of?
Nothing will top how proud I am of my children! I am also proud of staying and growing with the agency to further my career here at DePaul.
Thank you to Michelle for 33 years of making a difference at DePaul! Stay tuned as we continue to highlight the passionate individuals who make our work possible.
