Healing with Hobbies (Heritage Manor of Lockport)

May 12, 2021 (North Tonawanda, NY) ─ In an effort to pass the time and cope during the pandemic, many have rediscovered hobbies or found new creative outlets and artful expressions over the past year. At Heritage Manor of Lockport, Ken Duncan has found solace in rediscovering some of his old pastimes.

Ken has been staying busy rekindling a love of wood carving, doing puzzles, and writing down his memoirs. Ken learned how to whittle at a retirement campground in Ft. Meyers. He’s carved a number of birds and animals, typically using basswood which is soft enough to carve with ease.

Ken said he has gotten a lot of satisfaction “turning out” his masterpieces over the years so others can enjoy them. Most of his treasured pieces have been gifted to family and friends. He estimates having carved nearly 40 pieces in his lifetime.
