Rochester View Apartments Groundbreaking

May 15, 2014 (Rochester, NY) – Construction has begun on DePaul’s Rochester View Apartments with a groundbreaking on Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m. The community will feature 61 one- and two-bedroom apartments for income-eligible tenants, and will include enhanced supports to accommodate tenants who may be Deaf. The DePaul Rochester View Apartments will be located onWest Henrietta Road in Henrietta, New York, next to Woodcrest Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community.

“Those of us who get to go home every night take it for granted, but so much happens at home,” said State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle. “So much of our thinking of our families, of our communities all comes together in our home and when you don’t have that opportunity, it’s a significant dimension of your life that is challenged.”

The $17,650,000 project is anticipated to be complete in the fall of 2015. Apartments will include open floor plans with high levels of visibility, strategic lighting, safety lights on the faucet and doorbell, video conferencing and calling, and pillows that vibrate during a fire alarm.

Assemblyman Bronson said Henrietta has one of the largest populations of people who are deaf and hearing impaired.

“This project is sensitive to their needs and sensitive to the community,” he added. “It will not only help with communication issues, but other issues that are unique to this wonderful community.”

DePaul would also like to recognize SWBR Architects, Christa Construction, the Rochester View Apartments Advisory Board of Professionals, the Rochester School for the Deaf, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the National Center for Deaf Health Research, the Rochester Recreation Club of the Deaf, Finger Lakes Heath, the Monroe County Office of the Aging and the National Association of the Deaf for their support of the project.
