Celebrating Activity Professionals Week

By: Justine Smith, Digital Content Manager

DePaul celebrated Activity Professionals Week from January 23-29, 2022!  Our greatest asset is our dedicated team of employees, and we acknowledge and thank the DePaul staff who enrich the lives of the people we serve with creativity and compassion.

Several of DePaul’s Activity Directors share their favorite aspects of their roles:

Tamara

“Activities means something much deeper than bingo, much more than crafts. We provide direct care while at the same time transcending it. We are in a unique position to provide emotional, mental, and spiritual support, and the opportunities are infinite. Together, we are learning something new every day.”

-Tamara (Glenwell in Cheektowaga)

“I love stepping back from an activity and seeing residents smiling, laughing, remembering, and being engaged in an activity. I’m glad I can create moments of happiness.”

-Susan (Wheatfield Commons in North Tonawanda)

“They teach me so much. My goal is to make this part of their lives as happy as I can. Their smiles brighten my day and I hope I do the same for them.”

-Lesley (Heritage Manor of Lockport in Lockport)

“I just love hearing stories from residents about their lives!”

-Laurie (Wheatfield Commons in North Tonawanda)

“I enjoy knowing that I make someone’s day brighter just by simply listening, helping fill out a form or doing an activity. It is so important for residents to feel loved, appreciated and listened to. To see them socializing and interacting is rewarding and I feel lucky to be able to share these moments with them!”

-Laura (Woodcrest Commons in Henrietta)
