Bidding Farwell to Fall (Woodcrest Commons)

December 2, 2015 (Henrietta, NY) ─ An unseasonably warm fall gave residents at Woodcrest Commons a little extra time to savor the season with trips to Powers Farm Market, the Lazy Acre Alpacas farm and Letchworth State Park.

Residents stocked up on fall essentials such as cider, fry cakes and peanut brittle during a visit to Powers Farm Market in Pittsford. Pictured above are Tom Armstrong and Rosanne Bourne.

Walking through the teepees, admiring the carved pumpkins on display and saying hello to various farm animals, residents soaked up the perfect fall breeze. They also got a kick out of trying to guess the weight of the giant pumpkin which was 411 pounds!

Woodcrest Commons resident Norene Hogan with an Alpaca Residents enjoyed a foliage-filled drive through Rush and Honeoye Falls on a trip to Lazy Acre Alpacas farm in Bloomfield. The 187-acre farm boasted about a few dozen alpacas. Residents learned that each alpaca has about 10 pounds of fleece on them which can be used to make coats, sweaters, hats, gloves and even boot inserts. A tour included a view of the maternity ward, treatment room and a chance to feed and pet some of the alpaca, including a few babies!

No one knew where the Woodcrest Commons bus was headed when residents embarked on a mystery trip to Letchworth State Park. First on the agenda was lunch at the iconic Glen Iris Inn. The trip included a stop at the museum, visitors’ center and scenic outlooks, where residents reveled in the sights of the changing leaves and commented on how scenic the “Grand Canyon of the east” truly is.

“Many of the residents had not been to Letchworth in decades,” said Activities Director Lindsay Lown. “We enjoyed watching the raptors fly over the canyon.”

On the drive home, Woodcrest Commons residents enjoyed a visit to the Castile Cider Mill where residents enjoyed some cider slushies and picked up some local cheese and fry cakes.
