Savoring the Flavors of Summer (Woodcrest Commons)

September 13, 2017 (Henrietta, NY) ─ The Country Store at Woodcrest Commons is serving up smiles by the scoop! In fact, it’s one of the most popular spots at the DePaul Senior Living Community in Henrietta.

“We’ve had people who want to move here just for the ice cream,” said Activities Director Lindsay Lown.

Going strong for over a decade, the store is open about four times a week, usually in the afternoons, but more recently the hours have been extended to after dinner as well! The store features eight flavors of Byrne Dairy and Purity ice cream for a steal at $.50 a scoop. Maple walnut is the number one requested flavor with vanilla bean, vanilla fudge, butter pecan, chocolate and strawberry as runner ups!

“Every couple of months we supply a flavor list to the residents and they have the opportunity to let us know what flavors appeal to them,” said Lown. “Any time a resident is in the store, they usually talk flavors and we take note.”

Residents are also encouraged to help out in the store, which offers other items like toiletries, arts and crafts, greeting cards, snacks among other things.

All items are sold at cost and any profits are put back into the activities fund which is used for live entertainment, parties, happy hour, art therapy and community events.
