Celebrating 100 Years Young! (Twelve Oaks)

October 4, 2017 (Mt. Airy, NC) ─ Taking life a day at a time is the secret to centenarian Nolie Boyle’s longevity.

“I never had much spare time to do things for myself,” she said. “There was always work that needed to be done.”

A native of Surry County, Nolie was born in Pilot Mt. on September 21, 1917, where she and her five brothers and two sisters learned the meaning of hard work being raised on a farm. After finishing high school, she married a tobacco farmer, Durward, and together they raised two sons and two daughters. Although she would have loved the opportunity to go to college, Nolie said she has no regrets.

“I have worked hard all my life farming and I would never change any of it,” she said.

A resident of Twelve Oaks, a DePaul Senior Living Community since 2015, she said, “I call this home because I like it here and it’s my home away from home.”

A lover of the outdoors, Nolie said she never set her sights on living to 100 years of age.

“I never thought about it,” she said. “I just live day by day.”

She celebrated her milestone birthday with a party with friends, family and fellow Twelve Oaks resident Annie Riggs who recently turned 103-years-old!
